Asking What’s Next?

Documenting a process can be daunting. You know how to do your job, but having to document your tasks can be difficult. There are so many things that happen, so many things you could forget. Before you get overwhelmed, take a deep breath! Any process can be built one task at a time.

When helping clients build processes, we ask one simple question: “What happens next?” Start with one task and ask yourself “what happens next?”. Over time the process will reveal itself. Once pieces of the process are revealed, it will be easier to diagram edge cases and the “what if” scenarios. When mapping out more complex scenarios, just ask yourself “what happens next?”
